This report is written to serve two purposes. It provides an evaluation of the effectiveness and relevance the World Bank's lending and non-lending activities to India as an input into the Operations Evaluation Department's (OED's) India Country Assistance Evaluation of April 23, 2001. It also provides a case study of how the World Bank's 1993 Water Resources Management Policy and Strategy has been utilized and applied among the Bank's borrowers, and this case study is part of OED's global evaluation of the Bank's experience in implementing the water policy.

This OED review finds that report cards have had a significant impact on the quality of public services in Bangalore. The review identifies success factors and considers the replicability of the report card approach elsewhere.

The objectives of the project were to restore forests and improve the living standards of residents in Haryana State, northern India, by afforestation, soil and water conservation, poverty reduction, technical assistance and supporting activities, thereby contributing to forest conservation and the promotion of sustainable forest management in the state. Implementation of the project was highly relevant to India’s development plan and development needs, as well as to Japan’s ODA policy at the time of appraisal

This report summarizes the findings of the Terminal Evaluation Mission conducted during the January 16- 25, 2017 period for the UNDP-GEF Project entitled: “Improving Energy Efficiency in the Indian Railways System” (hereby referred to as the IEEIRS Project or the Project), that received a US$ 5.20 million grant from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) in April 2011
