OVERVIEW
Glocal Evaluation Week is a knowledge-sharing event where participants from all over the world join events to learn from each other on a variety of topics surfacing in Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) ecosystems. Convened by the Global Evaluation Initiative (GEI), gLocal supports strengthening national M&E systems and enhancing evidence use in countries. It was launched by the Centers for Learning on Evaluation and Results (CLEARs), a key GEI partner, which continues to organize regional events. GEI emphasizes country-owned efforts aligned with local needs and goals, making knowledge sharing a central mission.
DMEO has been a part of the gLocal initiatives since 2020 wherein webinars are organized jointly with our partners on themes/ areas of mutual interest. These webinars are recorded and widely disseminated over social media by DMEO and other partners. The theme for gLocal 2026 is “Evaluation, Evidence, and Trust in the Age of AI”.
Consonant with the theme of gLocal, DMEO’s session in gLocal 2026 is titled “Ethical Usage of AI for Efficient Evaluation”. Event details are as follows:

“Ethical Usage of AI for Efficient Evaluation”
The Government of India has increasingly emphasized evidence-based decision-making and outcome-oriented governance to improve the effectiveness of public welfare schemes and development programmes. In this context, AI offers significant potential to strengthen the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) ecosystem by enabling faster data processing, predictive analytics, real-time monitoring, and improved targeting of beneficiaries.
It is believed that AI tools can support ministries, implementing agencies, and M&E institutions in analyzing large datasets generated through schemes implementations and surveys. The usage of AI tools in evaluation processes has become increasingly important as various institutions, including Governments, seek to improve efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness in assessment systems. It has been established that AI tools can support evaluators by automating repetitive tasks, analyzing large volumes of data, and identifying patterns.
Since evaluations often involve sensitive beneficiary data, robust safeguards for privacy, data protection, and informed use of information are essential. Hence, the use of AI in government scheme evaluation must adhere to strong ethical and governance principles to ensure inclusion, fairness, accountability, and transparency.
The session will dwell on adopting a balanced approach that combines the use of AI tools with proper ethical safeguards to improve the quality, reliability, and fairness of evaluations of Government of India schemes.
