Insights from India Human Development Survey (IHDS)

Prof Sonalde Desai, Professor and Director at NCAER-National Data Innovation Centre (NDIC) is an internationally renown demographer who is leading the India Human Development Survey (IHDS), a nationally representative, multi-topic panel survey of  more than 41000 households in 1503 villages and 971 urban neighborhoods across India. The previous two waves of the survey were conducted in 2004–05 and 2011–12, with the 3rd wave planned this year. During the session, Prof Desai shared insights from her experience conducting IHDS, the plan for the 3rd wave of the survey with a focus on livelihoods and safety nets, and her recent research around Covid-19.
